What is IP to Country database?
IP-to-Country database gives information on the geographical location of an IP address based on internet infrastructure information, which is significantly more accurate than the conventional inverse lookup method for determining a visitor's location.
TraceWatch uses the IP-to-Country database available at ip-to-country.webhosting.info.
How to install IP to Country after you have already installed TraceWatch without it?
- Download both the IP-to-Country Application and TraceWatch Country Plugin packages from the download page.
- Edit twatch/base/profiles/default/settings.php on your server set $settings[ 'down' ] to true to turn off TraceWatch.
- Copy the country folder in IP-to-Country Application package to twatch/country folder on your server.
- Copy the 1_country folder in TraceWatch Country Plugin package to twatch/profiles/default/plugins/1_country folder on your server.
- With your browser go to http://{yourdomain}/twatch/country/admin/install.php, login, click "Install IP-to-Country" button and wait until you see "ip-to-country installed successfully".
- With your browser go to http://{yourdomain}/twatch/admin/install_plugin.php, login, select Country from the plugins list and click "Install", click install again in next page and wait until you see "Successfully Installed".
- Edit twatch/base/profiles/default/settings.php on your server set $settings[ 'down' ] back to false to turn on TraceWatch.
How to update IP to Country database?
The IP-to-Country database is updated periodically. You can always download the latest version of the database which is a csv file from ip-to-country.webhosting.info.
To update IP-to-Country database we actually reinstall the IP-to-Country application:
- Edit twatch/base/profiles/default/settings.php on your server set $settings[ 'down' ] to true to turn off TraceWatch.
- Copy the new ip-to-country.csv file to twatch/country folder on your website (replace the old file).
- With your browser go to http://{yourdomain}/twatch/country/admin/install.php, login, check "overwrite if tables already exist", click "Install IP-to-Country" and wait until you see "ip-to-country installed successfully".
- Edit twatch/base/profiles/default/settings.php on your server set $settings[ 'down' ] back to false to turn on TraceWatch.
