Strange IPs

Postby hamann » Mon Jan 18, 2010 7:25 am

Hi!

I've just updated to tw0.31 and everything works fine, BUT in the latest visitors view I got some strange IPs. Usually I would expect them to be in a form like this: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Actually I see a lot of them appearing this style: "NS (!NS 7-3716542179)". Browsing through the latest visitors I can see a few hundred normal IPs followed by a few hundred of these strange IPs. Also the page report is filled with "!NS"-numbers instead of expected html-files.

Attached you can find a little screen shot of this issue.

As I do not know how to interpret these "!NS"-numbers, may be someone here can give me a little hint?!

Many thanks in advance!

"!NS"-numbers means an "entity value" that is referenced but doesn't exist. In simpler terms it means something went wrong.
Did you set $settings[ 'down' ] to true before updating? If not then these errors might be caused by a partially updated TraceWatch. If that is not the case then obviously something went wrong during the update process because those !NS-number values mean TraceWatch is not working right. Try updating to 0.321 (follow the update instructions carefully) see if that solves the problem.

Thank you, Arash, for disclosing the secret of those "!NS"-entries ;-)

Actually my "update" to 0.31 was a parallel installation in a different folder with a different database. So everything should have been fresh and new?!

I have just updated the soft to 0.321. By now everything seems to work perfectly. I'll give another feedback in the next 48h.

Thank you!

Hi Arash,

the problem unfortunately still occurs after updating. Playing with the configuration I think the problem is based somewhere in reading from the database: Setting the number of sessions per page in the latest visitors view to different values generates different "!NS"-results. Also the latest visitors view usually starts with "normal" entries.

Setting down the the number of displayed users to 30 reduces the "!NS"-entries to a acceptable limit, but adjusting the number of visitors in the latest visitors view is a feature I really like, as I have to browse through about 1000 entries a week.

Maybe someone else experiences this kind of problem and can give some additional information?

But it's still great soft :-)

Thanks for the info hamann, After a lot of thinking I suppose finally I figured out where the problem is. I will try to fix this in next release :)
